Important: What do you think?

Me, with an actual koala! Hat from Country Road, top is the Georgia Tee in Raw Silk from Elizabeth Suzann.

Between getting back from vacation a few weeks ago and now, a lot has happened:

1. I'm seriously, seriously undertaking a purge of my closet. No, really! I'd started doing this well in advance of my vacation, during my funemployment/sabbatical time, but as always, going on vacation and living out of a suitcase reminds me of just how little I really need. It's always a little bit of a shock coming back to my full wardrobe and realizing just how much stuff I have.

I'm likely never going to be a minimalist, and I don't personally understand or enjoy "wardrobe challenges," since I don't have difficulty putting outfits together and don't inherently prefer to have fewer things, but having amazing experiences always puts into perspective for me the reality that experiences are more important to happiness than things. (And I loves me some things.)

The non-ace is being sifted through first, and I have no clue just how long it might take, but I hope to emerge from the other side with more space in my tiny apartment!

2. I've come to realize that Ace & Jig Fall 2017 just isn't for me.
Sure, there are some pieces that I've loved, but they're mostly XOs, and I find myself struggling to like certain pieces because I love or want to love the textile so badly (Ace goggles much?).

At the same time, I realize that Ace & Jig is at the core of what is of interest to you, as a reader, but I can't help but feel a bit blasé about it this season, even with the impending arrival of Brighton. It certainly makes it harder to write and post about.

3. I have so many other designers and lines that I want to share with you! I was thrilled to have been able to attend some Market Week trade shows for the first time with my newly minted "blogger" status, and found loads of amazing new-to-me (and occasionally, much-admired) designers with pieces and stories that I want to talk about here.

It was such a treat to be able to see all of these things at once and in person, and to actually talk to the designers about their pieces and inspirations for the upcoming season. This blog started from my love of Ace & Jig, but I always intended it to be more than that, since I wear and love other things as well. (And before you ask, no, I unfortunately have not seen any of Ace & Jig Spring 2018. Sadface.)

4. I landed a job that I'm very, very excited about, and hopefully mentioning it here won't somehow jinx it. Yes, it's true! I start in a little over a week, and funemployment will officially end at last. Which means probably a bit less time to devote to this side project.

I've debated about what that means for the blog, apart from more efficient ways of communicating things that I'd been mentally toying with for quite some time now. But then I realized that I'd made the ultimate UX mistake of not asking my audience. So I need YOUR help.

Considering the above, what do you think? What have you liked most on this blog? What's been most helpful to you? What would you like to see (or not see) in the future? While I reserve the right to make editorial decisions that make sense for me and this business (and this blog is indeed a small business that I'm running!), I want to hear your thoughts!

Please take a moment to comment below, email me some thoughts at hello@anotherthread.org, or DM me at @anotherthread on Instagram. Any thoughts you have are greatly appreciated!

  1. Yay on the new job and I am with you on all of the other thoughts as well. Textile love is tempting but should never overshadow shape/fit issues. Closet cleaning feels great but there's also no prize for being a minimalist for minimalism's sake. As long as you wear and love your pieces that's what matters. Just edit the extraneous stuff (the things that you never wear and just get in the way of finding what you do love in your packed closet lol). I personally love all of your try ons. That's what really makes this space special for me. So I would vote for try ons of other brands here that you already love or are just now learning about. I think that it would be great to see how to balance the ace in our lives and closets with complementary pieces - especially other brands with interesting stories and beautiful textiles of their own. Love you Wendy and all you do!

  5. I haven't wanted REALLY anything since fall of last year, this years textiles are not that exciting, plus the higher prices make them much less intriguing. I am seeking out older dresses and tops I missed out on, but when I like a dress and I don;t like the fabric they made it in... and vice versa.
