Breaking News! Ace & Jig Spring 2018 Leaked Lookbook Photo & Writeup

Ace & Jig Spring 2018
It's happening! Vogue.com quietly posted the Ace & Jig Spring 2018 lookbook and review a few days ago on Friday October 6. The page appears to have been taken down shortly after it went live, and if you visit the page right now, it leads to an error.

But the page is real, and this intrepid blogger can prove it! I managed to salvage the image above along with the accompanying article, which has some very juicy tidbits of information indeed. The full review is copied in its entirety below. Bolded emphasis is my own.

For more information on the upcoming season: check out my other posts about Ace & Jig Spring 2018: A season preview gathered from Instagram and a slightly silly, speculative textile guide which is nonetheless helpful.

Collage made by me!

Still no official release of Ace & Jig Spring 2018 yet, but I took the liberty of gathering up all of the textiles I saw in the preview photos for some fun discussion and speculation — 25 in all and counting!. In case you missed it, I highly recommend checking out my previous post for a preview of Ace & Jig Spring 2018.

The textile info below is comprised of my own wild (albeit educated) guesses about what to expect. Note: The names aren't real — just a fun inside joke, since the collection so strongly evokes candy to me — but it makes them easier to talk about, so why not? See below for my musings. And feel free to suggest better textile names in the comments!

And if you want to learn more about this season's textiles, take a gander at my recently updated Ace & Jig Fall 2017 Textile Guide!

Ace & Jig Spring 2018 Preview
Update: I put together a Spring 2018 Textile Guide of just the textiles that have been spotted so far, along with my speculation about textures and made-up, candy-related names. Silly, but still informative!

We may not yet have a lookbook for Ace & Jig Spring 2018, but we do have some sneak peeks of the pieces to come, thanks to Instagram, the first Amendment of the U.S., and the benevolent goddesses of Ace & Jig.

As ever, I have many thoughts, but those will need to wait for another post, since there's so much to see below. Click on through for all of the photos that I was able to find, and definitely let me know what you think, either in the comments below, or via DM on Instagram!

Credit goes to @aceandjig, @idlewildwoman,@phxgeneral, @ziabird, @miramirasf, and @lesouklesouk for these sneak peeks!

It's safe to say that that the end of Ace & Jig Spring 2017 has officially come, along with the final day of #aceweek, new Ace & Jig Webstore markdowns, and the start of pre-orders for Fall 2017 . But let's take a quick look back on Spring, shall we?

Ace & Jig Fall 2017 Drop 1 Pre-Orders - What's Currently Available

Update: Drop 1 has shipped out and is available to buy in stores and online now. Though you can still use this page as a shopping guide, I'd highly recommend visiting my Ace & Jig Fall 2017 Drop 1 Shopping Guide instead for a better picture of what's out there.

Ace & Jig Fall Pre-Orders are happening tonight for the August drop, and they've already started! Because the Ace & Jig goddesses are benevolent, allow me to point you to the handy Ace & Jig Stockists site they made, so you can see exactly where your favorite pieces can be found!

Ace & Jig Fall 2017: All The Things We Know So Far

Ace & Jig Fall 2017
Update: Details on Ace & Jig Fall 2017 Collection have arrived!

Now that Ace & Jig Spring 2017 is definitely, definitely over and it doesn't seem like there will be any more surprise XOs, I think we can safely turn our attentions to Fall 2017, and the mysteries therein.

Rumor has it that the fall collection will be dropping sometime in July, probably towards the end of the month? Though Ace & Jig has remained silent about the specifics, we know through Katy's expert investigating that a Pinterest page is forthcoming (yay!!!). But for now, we have the images and video from WWD and Vogue to whet our appetites, and a handful of images I've managed to scavenge from Instagram!

My thoughts? There are some really great textiles in the mix for Fall, and I'm particularly partial to the black-and-white textile that appears to be the new Coverlet, as well as the two rainbow-stripe textiles. But I bet one of the hits will be the new Oxblood (see the first image below) which seems to be a doublegauze with reverse similar to Peppermint! Of course, who knows whether there are any others to come? All bets are off until I see everything!

It's gonna be a great season, you guys! See below for the scoop.

Ace & Jig x Land of Nod is Here!

Dear Cary & Jenna: If you are reading this, please please please make Coverlet/Cardiff/Sampler sheeting sets for those of us who have aged out of diapers!

Love,
Wendy.

Desperate pleas aside, the much-teased Ace & Jig collaboration with Land of Nod is now available online! Though it doesn't deliver on the much-desired adult-sized quilts we've all been craving, there are excellent pieces to be found for parents of kiddos and childless adults alike. And tons of DIY inspiration for those scraps we've all been hoarding!

I've collected them all in a handy Pinterest board for future ogling, but you can find my personal faves below!

2 Months of Another Thread: A Quick Look Back and Forward

Guess what, everyone? It's been another month of Another Thread, and what a great one!

Month two has eclipsed month one by a huge margin, in terms of readers, revenue, and enjoyment for me, personally. It is thanks to your support via your encouragement, comments, likes, ad clicks and affiliate link purchases, that I am able to maintain the drive to keep on keeping on.

As you may already know, I started this blog around the time my whole division was laid off at my company, purely by coincidence. And it's thanks to that free time, my existing knowledge of UX, and a ton of self-teaching that I've been able to make it what it is. Let's call this procrastiworking, since I really ought to be looking for a new gig... but this is turning into a proper side hustle in its own right. I still have so much more planned for the future, and I'm really excited to see where this thing can go!

And now, a look at what's happened this month, by the numbers:

The 5 Most Popular Posts Last Month:

  1. Ace & Jig Try-Ons At Barneys, Part 2 - So you guys like it when I wear clothes, huh? Or is it the brighter-than-usual blush that did it? Or maybe I'm just being self-centered and it's really alllll about that Ballad Dress.
  2. Ace & Jig Spring 2017 Shopping Guide (4th Drop) - So glad to see that this little experiment ended up working well for you! I'll admit that I reference it myself sometimes when I get a sudden hankering for particular pieces.
  3. The Best Memorial Day Sales For The Indie Fashion Label Shopper - Boy, was this one a labor of love, keyword being LABOR. This took some serious legwork on my part, since I haven't yet done the boutique outreach I keep meaning to do, so this was all put together from the many, many boutique email lists I've signed up for over the years, various social media accounts, etc. So I guess love definitely factors into it quite a bit as well. Hope you all found some great deals!
  4. Ace & Jig Webstore XO Photos - Ra Ra Midis Galore! - Glad to see that you all like Ra Ra Midis as much as I do! Alas, I still haven't gotten around to outfits/try-ons/reviews of the bunch, but let me know if you desperately need them, and I'll move them up in my queue!
  5. Mother's Day Sales From Some Of The Best Boutiques - My first try at a sales round-up. Hope there are lots of happy moms out there, sporting some stylish sale finds.

So based on the above, below are the 5 things I'm guessing about you readers... for the nerds like me.

Memorial Day Reads: Slow Fashion, Gorpcore, Waste, & Me!

Much as I love writing them, I'm not always going to have time to ramble about clothing, textiles, slow fashion, and myself in my Thinkpieces. They take a while to conceive of and write, and I'm not actually sure if it's anything anyone wants to read, so I sometimes suspect they might be rather self-indulgent drivel...

Given all the great internet writing out there on many of these same topics, I'm once again going to practice the art of curation, and round up some of the most interesting and thought-provoking articles that I've found interesting of late. All such posts will all be filed under the Required Reading tag (also found above the post titles — not just for decor!) And what better time to start than right after a long weekend, when you might need a longer-than-usual warm-up tomorrow.

Enough rambling. On with the links!

  • I'd be remiss if I didn't start off with Karen Templer's thoughtful post on "What makes a garment slow fashion?" which is a stronger and more admirable attempt than I have ever managed to untangle what we're even talking about. Though this blog often talks about slow/ethical/small fashion, I'll openly admit that I couldn't totally define what I mean beyond "not-fast-fashion,"  which simply isn't sufficient.
  • Similarly, Racked asks: is pretty packaging really worth the waste it creates? Personally, I prefer minimal, utilitarian packaging a la Shopbop to the fancy marbled boxes of Matches, because packaging isn't something I care about as a customer, and because I know I'm paying for the fancy packaging in some way. But thinking about the environmental toll for the fleeting seconds of a fancy packaging experience is perhaps an even more convincing perspective.
  • Normcore evolves into Gorpcore. Is it really an environmentalist statement via fashion, or, as I suspect, have we as a country fallen into a Trump-era aesthetic slump in which a cozy cocoon of Patagonia fleece seems necessary to protect us against... everything?
  • And in another moment of self-indulgence, the Business of Fashion article featuring the last Ace & Jig Swap event in Brooklyn finally came out, and Katy and I are in it briefly, talking textile and Gilmore Girls love! True to form, I am depicted in my natural state: hoarding the textiles, and wearing even more...
  • And on that note, If you're even remotely in the area and aren't sure whether you wanted to come to the next swap on June 3rd (details here), do! It was tons of fun last time, and you should come say hi to me, too, if I'm not too busy hoarding textiles again! This is similar to the welcome you can expect!

Ace & Jig Soiree, Mesa, Simone, Atwood, Ballad, Clifton, Paz, & Harbor Dresses; Clifton Tops, and a Lone Rosemary Top, Suit-Up and Spray Scarf - Ace & Jig Spring 2017 Webstore Exclusive Photos

Sometimes the goddesses of Ace & Jig are tricksy minxes... Though they teased the coming of the XO Hooded and regular Mesa dresses in an Instagram post, they kept us all on their toes with the release with a whole bunch of unexpected surprise XOs as well!

A post shared by ace&jig (@aceandjig) on

It was the most mish-mashy assortment I've seen thus far, and it's hard to even talk about it as a cohesive XO drop... Though I guess you could get away with calling it the Attack of the Dresses, as the vast majority of the drop consisted of myriad dress styles in textiles old and new.

I've started collecting all of the XO imagery on a new Pinterest account for extra convenience. Follow me at @AnotherThread!

Click through below for images of all the XO pieces that dropped on Friday! Note: All photos/videos are by Ace & Jig, except the ones pulled from Instagram, but if you use this site as a an image source, please credit "@aceandjig via @anotherthread" so that others can find their way here!

Don't Miss the Ace & Jig Event in Portland This Sunday May 7th!

Ace & Jig Ra Ra Midis - Ace & Jig Spring 2017 Webstore Exclusives

Wow, wow, wow. That's about all I can say after the insanity today. I knew it was coming, but I still wasn't totally prepared for how quickly everything would fly out! Not gonna lie, I meditated beforehand to get myself in the zone, and I'm happy with the items I came away with.

Unsurprisingly, it seemed as though Emerald and Black Hole were the first ones to go, followed quickly by Ivy and then Twine. Hope everyone got something that they love. If you scored something, let us know in the comments!

See below for all the images from the drop!

Ace & Jig Ra Ra Midi Skirts in Pearl, Emerald, Carnaby, and Carnival)

Happy 1 Month Blogiversary to Another Thread!

Outfit post of me with a Club Monaco beanie, APC leather jacket, Acne scarf, Ace & Jig Diamond Caravan pants, and gold Dieppa Restrepo Penny Loafers.

If you can believe it, it's already been a month since I started this place on the web! I wanted to take this moment to say thank you for reading and following and clicking and commenting! Thank you for the support, and kind words and even alerting ME to sales and deals that I didn't know about!

Running this blahg has been time-consuming and stressful, but also super rewarding, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this project so far

Textile Reviews: Ace & Jig SS17 4th Drop Textiles - Ivy, Solstice, Madras, Lunar

Ace & Jig Drop 4 Textiles: Ivy, Solstice, Madras, Lunar
It's always best to jump into the preorder fray already knowing what you're looking for. To help you make a game plan for the Ace & Jig preorder action going down tonight, here's a crash course on the SS17 Drop 4 textiles.

Incidentally, I have seen all of these in person already, thanks to various Barneys XOs and kimonos. See below for the official info from Ace & Jig, plus reviews based on my personal experience of the textiles.

Ace & Jig Mini Pinafores, Uni Jumpsuits, Paz Dresses, Shop Tees - Ace & Jig Spring 2017 Webstore Exclusive Photos

Ace & Jig Pinafore Minidress in Carnival
Seriously, seriously crazy drop today. There are still plenty of styles left in the Ace & Jig Webstore, if you are hankering for something shiny and new.

And it's still not over... But this is the last bit! All the webstore exclusive XO goodies! It was a bit of a mish-mash in terms of styles and fabrics, but #nowaste, amirite? None of them were quite my cup of tea, though I do have the Paz dresses on my watchlist...

And I'm not crazy, am I? Those Uni Jumpsuits are new in those textiles, right???

I've started collecting all of the XO imagery on a new Pinterest account for extra convenience. Follow me at @AnotherThread! See all the imagery from this drop below.

Carnival & Pearl aren't two sides of the same cloth. But they are yin and yang, and are combined often enough that I'm definitely NOT combining them here simply out of laziness and exhaustion. Nope, definitely not... So without further ado, Carnival & Pearl!

Ace & Jig Twine & Filigree - Ace & Jig Spring 2017

I debated separating Twine and Filigree into their own separate pages, but it just didn't feel right. Doublegauzes are the conjoined twins of textiles, and who am I to deny their nature? So here they are in their combined glory: Twine & Filigree! See below for all the photos.
